The Coach Tourism and Transport Council (CTTC) has announced that it supports the Road Traffic Bill 2009 that is due before the Dáil today for final stage discussion.

The umbrella group for the private coach and bus companies said the Bill’s proposals to reduce the blood alcohol level for drivers and introduce compulsory testing at the scene of collisions can only lead to safer driving conditions on our roads, and reduce the number of deaths.

CTTC Chief Executive Gerry Mullins said: "We support the proposed reduction in blood alcohol limits because we expect the measure will make our roads safer, and because it will encourage more people to use their local coach, bus and taxi companies instead of taking their cars."
